There's so much to love about this time of year, but you know what helps make it so awesome? Sudbury’s Pride event, of course!

Greater Sudbury’s 24th annual 2021 Pride celebrations are quickly approaching and will take place from July 12th to the 18th!

To honour the fantabulous month and celebrate LGBTIQA+, Cortina wants to highlight just some of the pretty awesome people who have contributed to the movement and pair them with a Cortina pizza that we think best represents them!

5 Awesome LGBTIQA+ Figures & Their Pizza Pairings!

#1. Harvey Bernard Milk

Pizza Pair!

Cheese Pizza - (With a name like Milk, we think nothing would suit this dairy lover better than a classic cheese pizza!)

Harvey Milk became one of the first openly gay politicians to be elected in California by winning a seat on San Francisco's Board of Supervisors in 1977. Over his 11 months in office, Milk sponsored a bill banning discrimination in public accommodations, housing, and employment on the basis of sexual orientation. Known as a hero and leading political activist for the gay community, Milk made a name for himself as a prominent, outspoken LGBTQ activist in America.

#2. RuPaul

Pizza Pair!

Cortina Carnivore - (Meat, meat, and more meat to match this entertainment beast!)

RuPaul needs no introduction. In addition to being a fierce Drag Queen, RuPaul is an actor, entrepreneur, tv mogul and award-winning singer. He first rose to fame in the 90s after releasing his hit single "Supermodel (You Better Work)." And boy did he ever! Nowadays, he is the mother helping drag queens all over entertaining the world through “RuPaul's Drag Race,” a drag queen competition show he super-powered in 2009 that’s become a major hit amongst mainstream audiences. RuPaul is more than an entertainment beast; RuPaul is a straight-up carnivore! There’s no other way to describe it.

#3. James Arthur Baldwin

Pizza Pair!

The Kitchen Sink - (As an iconic author, artist, and activist, he deserves a work of art, he deserves Cortina’s most iconic pizza.)

James Baldwin was a phenomenal American writer who grew up in Harlem, New York. He is an important historical figure to both the LGBTQ and African American communities because he broke new literary ground by exploring and discussing racial and social issues in his many works. His 1954 novel, "Giovanni's Room," is one example. Based on his colourful and vibrant literary works and remarkable representations, he would indeed have a flair for unexpected, different toppings, so the Kitchen Sink pizza is his ticket!

#4. Billie Jean King

Pizza Pair!

Hot Shot - (She’s on fire on the court and off of it.)

Billie Jean King is a fireball and one of the most famous names in professional tennis. In 1981, King became the first openly gay athlete after she was outed as a lesbian. While her publicists told her to deny the claim, she was brave enough to come out and change sports forever! She earned 39 Grand Slam titles throughout her career and famously beat Bobby Riggs in the highly publicized "Battle of the Sexes" match. On the court, she’s hot, but when it comes to paving history, she’s even hotter. King is the founder of WSF, and has continued to strive and make change for people all over the world in and out of sports. Spicy food isn’t for everyone. We can’t all be cool under pressure. The Hot Shot pizza is built to test your potential for greatness which is why it’s the perfect match for King!

#5. Tim Gunn

Pizza Pair!

Number 3 - (Every fashion guru knows that less is more. For this elegant consultant, there’s no better choice than a classic pepperoni pizza.)

Fashion consultant Tim Gunn has identified as asexual since the 80s. Though you may know him from Project Runway and his extraordinary style, did you know he was once an acting chair for a Fashion Design Program? The 66-year-old served as the chair of fashion design at Parsons from 2000 to 2007, where his office door remained open to students wanting to discuss important issues like coming out. Gunn has remained vocal that the fashion industry, education, and politics must incorporate more inclusivity to better design the world for every shape, size, and sexuality. He’s a classy guy, and what doesn’t pair better with a classy guy than a classic pizza.
